Rabbit Mountain - Longmont
Darby's Top Reasons to Love This Hike:
-
Choose between the Little Thompson Overlook Trail (3 Miles) or the Eagle Wind Trail (4 miles), or do both if you have the time!
-
This multi-use trail can accommodate dogs (on leash), bikes and horses, but is mostly empty during the week.
-
Wild flowers and blooming cactii dotting the sparsely treed landscape make for great smelling. Since there is no tree cover or water source, this hike is best on cooler days.
-
Views of the valley north of Lyons, and south to see the Boulder Flatirons.
-
Hogbacks, or anticlimes, are remnants of the earth"s shift millions of years ago. Views east and north of the steep slopes and plateaus are unique to this area, and formed by the St. Vrain's Basin and Big Thompson Basin.
